Never Have So Few...
The John T. White, Cobblestone, Sandybrook, and Burton Place neighborhood area is sparsely populated compared to most areas that have or are negotiating community gas leases. We read of informational meetings that overflow 1000 seat venues. One energy company made their offer contingent on the group getting 800 folks to sign the community lease. Some finalized leases involve so many people that the group has to be divided into "Red", "Blue", etc., sections and have their lease signing days assigned by color. What we lack in human numbers we make up in mineral acres. Our approximately 1700 acres is owned by under 300 families.

So Let's Get Together!
Individuals usually receive a very small per-acre bonus... The owner of minerals under a 60x150 lot, for instance, would only be paid a bonus of $1035 if they sign a lease with the usual rate of $5000/acre. If we all act together, our small tracts will receive the same respect ($/acre) as the "big guys". Instead of receiving a bonus of $1035, a 60x150 lot might garner a $3,105 bonus.

OK, So You Aren't a Joiner
There are a lot of folks that fall into this category. They avoid joining organizations and associations; usually because they "don't want to get involved with the politics" normally associated with such groups. Well... There shouldn't be much politics involved here! The Task Force is going to develop a recommended lease, which you are free to use or not as you see fit. If a sufficient number of folks in our area want to use that lease, it can be presented to the energy companies to bid on.
